We take a holistic approach by focusing on the inherent strengths of an individual, family or community, then build upon them.

When we talk about adolescents and characteristics they exhibit, we have a double standard. For example, take the term self-centered. In order to transition successfully into adulthood, you have to be self-aware. Self-awareness is a big thing. It’s tied to mindfulness. It’s tied to all of that stuff and now has a lot of research behind it. In order to become self-aware, who do you have to know? Yourself.

If we constantly see that as something that’s bad versus something that’s empowering, we’re going against the current.
